Required Chihuly tickets also made the visit too expensive for many visitors. Sorry to be the nay sayer, but I found the Chihuly exhibit extremely disappointing. This shows a nice side of Phoenix and as a desert geek by highly recommend going I know it can be crowded at times but maybe you can check and find what times are less crowded when we went it wasn't too bad. Several that are indoor are in darkened rooms which make for a even more extraordinary presentation. For the third time, Dale Chihuly is back to the Sonoran Desert to showcase his stunning masterpieces at the Garden-the remarkable Chihuly glass exhibit has 18 different installations both indoor and outdoor and just amazing to see. I know they work hard too have a butterfly garden as well which would be lots of fun to see. I certainly would go to the spring wildflower viewing once the cactuses started to Bloom and maybe some of the desert wildflowers started to bloom. They have activities designed specifically for children to help them learn how to garden. I think every time you would visit you would find something new that you hadn't seen before 55 acres is quite a lot. There are lots of wonderful photographic opportunities. I felt lucky because really the exhibit is only around till June although there is some permanent displays that he donated to the desert botanical garden. Not only did we see the wonderful botanical exhibits representing the Southwest and desert countries around the world we are able to see the Chihuly glass exhibit at the Desert Botanical Garden. It's a wonderful experience and I'm sure I just got a taste of it we spend about four hours there. The indoor display features some delicately beautiful sculptures and it also makes for a nice break from the harsh Arizona sun.Had a very nice friend take me as a guest with her membership. Seeing the sculptures outside amongst the desert plants is definitely a highlight but make sure not to miss the indoor display. These shapes include "Boats" (a boat form overflowing with an explosion of of glass forms), "Suns" (a ball made up of more than 1,500 pieces of entwined glass), "Chandeliers" (similar to suns but a little more gravity defying), "Towers" (free standing sculptures that soar upwards), and "Fiori" (the most organic pieces reminiscent of flowers). If you've seen Chihuly glasswork before you'll be familiar with the classic shapes. The sculptures vary in their structure but all take on a very organic appearance that compliments the landscape. Want more color? How about those Chihuly glass sculptures I mentioned earlier? The Chihuly in the Desert exhibition consists of eleven sculptures placed throughout the garden, and an indoor gallery featuring glasswork and paintings.
